10U Jersey Bombers Finish Spring / Summer Season On Top
August 30, 2011
The Blue team recently won the 9th Annual GT All-Star Tournament in Blackwood, NJ. The tournament took place July 29th-July31st. The team is coached by Chris Murray who said, “The boys played incredible all season, but to end the spring/summer season on such a high note is awesome. They worked really hard and truly deserved it.” Overall the Bombers Blue went 4-1 on the weekend, outscoring their opponents 54-11, and went on to beat Mt. Laurel in the Championship Game 13-3. In this tournament, the Bombers played up an age level and actually played 11-U.
The Red team won the Medford Killer “B” Tournament over the July 15th – July 17th weekend. The team is coached by Owen Boles who said, “What we saw this weekend was the payoff of all the hard work the boys have put in all season. When we needed a clutch hit, to make a pitch or a big play, we did it. We simply played great baseball all weekend and it was fun to watch.” The Bombers Red went 4-0 on the weekend, outscoring their opponents 53-8, and beat cross-town rival, Medford, 6-3 in the Championship Game.
About the overall success of his organization, General Manager Al Roach said, “This was the first full year for all of our teams, so our focus from the start was teach the kids the game and find the right position for each player. Our coaching staff, made up of former college and professional players, continually teach the kids what, where, when, and why we do certain things within the course of a game and practices. During the second half of the season we saw the kids really starting to gel which, in turn, brought many more wins. I am really proud of all our teams, and to win two tournament championships our first year is really special.”
