Bombers U-12 go 3-1 over weekend

October 17, 2010

The weekend started off on a good note Friday night as the Bombers took on the Marlton Reds. Jarrett Wambold pitched a gem, throwing just 67 pitches. Bombers won 4-0.

On Saturday the Bombers took on the South Jersey Blue Claws. After being down 11-2 in the first game, the Bombers bounced back scoring 12 runs in the last 3 innings earning a 14-11 win. Joey Robertson and Zak Fiato stole the show. Robertson led off the game with a home run. Fiato finished with three doubles. Max Gussen also had three hits including two singles and a monster double. Tim Schroeder had two singles.

Game two was neck and neck until the last inning. Nine year old, Matt Christopher led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, stole second and then moved to third on a past ball. After the next two batters getting out, another nine year old stepped to the plate, EJ Mangione. With two outs in the inning and the count ending up going to 3-2, Mangione had no doubt he was getting a fastball. EJ smashed a bomb to left over the left fielders head knocking in the winning run. On a normal sized 200ft field, the ball may have been a home run, however the fence was much farther.

Sunday the bombers fell to the SJ Rays 14-8 with a poor defensive game. Walks by the Bombers pitching staff haunted them throughout the game.

The Bombers will take on the Medford Indians Saturday at 3:30pm at hartford crossing in Medford, NJ.
